A Comprehensive Guide for a Failproof Essay Structure


You can write the perfect essay only when you know how to blend your creative writing skills in the correct essay structure. Unless you know how to format an essay, you will not be able to express all the ideas using coherent sentences within the limited word count.


So, how do you put together a piece that has the perfect essay structure? To help you out, here is a detailed guide on how to keep the structure right. 
  • Introduction

Write a maximum of 5 sentences, each containing 13-18 words approximately. Start with your thesis statement to explain the central idea of the topic. The statement must educate the reader about what you will be discussing in the piece. Suppose it is an argumentative essay. In that case, you can outline the arguments that you will be discussing, specifically or with an air of mystery.

  • Body Paragraph 1

The first body paragraph should be of 6 to ten sentences. Keep the sentences shorter and do not exceed the maximum of 20 words. The paragraph should start with a transition that connects the introduction with this section. It should also introduce your first argument or idea. Next, provide relevant data to prove your claims. 

  • Body Paragraph 2

Keep the same word count as you did in the first body paragraph. Again, start with a transition sentence to maintain a logical flow as you enter into your next narrative point. Also, provide at least one example to back up the claims that you have stated in not more than five sentences. 

  • Body Paragraph 3 

Since you are nearing the end of the piece, try to wrap up the last body paragraph within four to five sentences at max. Mention the least convincing idea or argument in the 3rd paragraph, only if it justifies the topic of the essay. You can also choose to omit this paragraph.   • Conclusion

Reiterate your thesis in the conclusion using different words and warp it up within two sentences. You may mention new examples only if they support your claims. However, it will be best if you steer clear from introducing new points. To urge the reader to think about what you have written, you can end with rhetoric.
